A dentist accused of indecent exposure and performing sexual acts on patients has been sentenced to 15 months in prison with no parole and a hefty fine.

Two women filed complaints in Vevey on Lake Geneva against the dentist for non-consensual sexual touching. In one case, the dentist also took his penis from his trousers and forced the woman to look at it.

The Vevey criminal court passed a particularly harsh sentence on the 42-year-old man on Tuesday because this was the second time that the dentist had been accused of sexual misconduct, newspaper Tribune de Genève reported.

In 2003, the dentist was fined for lifting the skirt of one his patients.

“We believe the risk of reoccurrence is high,” the court said.

The court imposed an even heavier sentence than that sought by the prosecution, which had requested 12 months imprisonment with 6 months on parole. In addition to the 15-month prison sentence, the doctor must also pay fines amounting to 10,000 francs ($11,000).

“He has behaved like a predator,” Swiss news agency SDA reported the court as saying.

“He has not taken into account the seriousness of his behavior because he keeps saying he misinterpreted the intentions of the victims.”

The court did not impose the five-year practice ban that the prosecution had also been hoping for.
