A job centre worker chained himself up to protest against his working conditions on Thursday. The man is partially deaf and says his employers are not taking his handicap into account.

"I was completely burnt out on March 3 due to my working conditions," said the man, who wanted to remain anonymous, in an interview with French daily France Soir.

"My employer has been slow in applying the adjustments I need due to my handicap," says the employee, who is over sixty years old. "There have also been numerous computer breakdowns here."

The man says his employers have not been responding to his demands for better treatment. On Thursday morning, he chained himself up in front of his workplace in a bid to attract their attention.

The employee has been working with the French employment agency Pôle emploi in the town of Guincamp in Britanny since 2006.

He claims he has been off sick since he stopped working due to exhaustion and wants his condition to be treated as an occupational illness. Le Telgramme reports he obtained an appointment with a psychiatrist.
