Oslo restaurant scoops two Michelin stars

New Oslo restaurant Maaemo has become the first ever eatery in the Nordic region to go straight in to the Michelin Guide with a two-star recommendation.

Maaemo only opened to the public in December 2010 but quickly acquired a sterling reputation for the high quality of its organic and locally sourced ingredients.

"It's absolutely fantastic. It's first time a Nordic restaurant has got two stars in one go and we're incredibly proud," head chef Esben Holmboe-Bang told national broadcaster NRK.

In all, four restaurants in the Norwegian capital made the cut for 2012.

Bagatelle managed to reclaim its star after missing out last year, while Statholdergaarden and Restaurant Oscarsgate each received a single star.

But there was bad news for Feinschmecker, which loses its star rating.
