“We have been informed that there was a fight. Someone was then walking by the café, looked in, and saw that a person was laying inside the location, and seemed badly injured,” said Ulla Brehm of the Västra Götaland police to the TT news agency.

Västra Götaland police were notified at around 5pm.

The man, who has been described as being in his 20’s, died as a result of what reports suggest was extreme violence. Police were unable to confirm whether the man died before the ambulance arrived.

The scene of the crime is situated on a busy shopping strip on Wieselgrensplatsen in Gothenburg in western Sweden, a street where many people pass throughout the day.

It remains unclear if the café was open to the public when the incident occurred.

The area was cordoned off on Monday night for the forensic investigation, and while police have begun listening to witnesses reports, they urge any other people who may have information to come forward.

Police are labelling the crime as a murder or manslaughter according to TT, and are yet to make any arrests in connection with the crime.
