Paris has rudest drivers, Lille the best: report
Frédéric Bisson

A survey by car magazine Auto Plus has revealed something many French people may have long suspected; Parisian drivers are the rudest in the country.

The capital tops the table for bad behaviour while the north-east town of Lille wins plaudits for its courteous and patient motorists.

Auto Plus used six criteria to rate ten of the country's biggest towns.

These included "respect for pedestrians", "allowing others to change lanes", "behaviour at traffic lights", "parking without blocking others", and "use of indicators".

On a score of 20 points Lille finished top with 17.4 while Paris trailed the other towns with just 6.1 points.

Lille scored best on most of the indicators, including "respecting red traffic lights".

The southern cities of Marseille and Nice also fared badly, both scoring less than 10 points.

The magazine called Paris "the national champion of uncivil behaviour at the wheel."

The table in full:

1   Lille (17.4)

2= Bordeaux (16)

2= Toulouse (16)

4   Clermont Ferrand (15.1)

5   Strasbourg (14.3)

6   Nantes (14.1)

7   Lyon (12.5)

8   Nice (8.4)

9   Marseille (7.4)

10 Paris (6.1)
