“I made a terrible mistake,” the pastor said in a statement submitted to the cathedral chapter after the matter came to light, the local Nya Wermlands Tidning (NWT) newspaper reported.

According to the pastor, the pictures of him and his girlfriend engaged in sexual acts ended up on his work computer last summer when he accidentally downloaded them from a USB memory stick which also contained work-related material.

He then claimed he forgot to erase the porn-themed pics, which were subsequently discovered by a colleague working at the Karlstad diocese.

In addition, complaints had also surfaced alleging that the pastor had bragged to confirmation students about losing his virginity at a young age.

The pastor defended himself against the accusations, claiming they had been taken out of context and misinterpreted.

Following the reports about the pastor's “bad judgement”, he was suspended and transferred to another parish pending a further investigation by the cathedral chapter.

The pastor also visited a therapist who determined that the man didn't suffer from any “personality disorders”, NWT reported.

In a ruling issued this week, the cathedral chapter concluded that the pastor's behaviour was “out of line with the requirements of basic trust placed on all pastors”, the body stopped short of calling for him to be fired, instead issuing electing to issue a written reprimand.
