”What we have been told is that the truck somehow got caught on the tracks, but that the driver managed to get out of the vehicle,” said Roger Svendal of the emergency services to daily Aftonbladet.

The police received a call shortly after 7.20am and firefighters and an ambulance were quickly despatched to the scene.

According to emergency services, the train driver had to be cut loose and is seriously injured.

Out of the 10-12 passengers that had been on board the train, three were brought to hospital with minor injuries, while most emerged unscathed.

”They are of course overwhelmed and shocked but no one is seriously injured,” said Jarmo Carlsten of the Stockholm emergency services to news agency TT.

The driver of the truck had managed to get out of the wreck by himself prior to the arrival of the emergency services.

The incident took place on the Roslagsbanan electrified railway line near Rydbo.

As of 10am Thursday morning there were still heavy delays to the traffic on the line.

An inquiry into the cause of the accident has been initiated.
