“I’m pleased and relieved that the abducted Norwegian has been set free and is unharmed,” said Foreign Minister Jonas Gahr Støre (Labour) in a statement.

The 34-year-old Gert Danielsen works for the UN Development Programme (UNDP). He was kidnapped by armed men in the Yemeni capita Sanaa on January 15th. He was then held in captivity by members of the al-Jalal tribe in the central Marib province.

Danielsen has now been taken to safety in Sanaa, the Norwegian foreign ministry said.

“I want to thank the Yemeni authorities for their determined efforts to negotiate the Norwegian's release. I am also happy for the close cooperation we have had with the UN in both Sanaa and New York, said the Foreign Minister.
