A survey published Thursday found that Germans have been growing more and more addicted to the box. In 2011, Teutonic couch potatoes buckled down to break the previous year’s record once again.

Altogether, the average German viewer above the age of three watched 225 minutes of TV per day (or 3 hours, 45 minutes) last year – two minutes more than in 2010.

German viewers 14 and up watched average of 239 minutes a day.

Broken down into age groups, the figures show that older Germans watch the most TV, with viewers aged 65 and above watching 306 minutes of TV a day. The biggest year-on-year rise was in the 50 to 64 age group though, who watched 280 minutes in 2011, six more minutes than in 2010.

The least dedicated TV watchers remained 3 to 13-year-olds, who watched only 93 minutes of TV a day – the same as in 2010.

Most TV stations define their main target audience as the wide 20 to 59 age group, who consumed a steady diet of 221 minutes a day – also no change from the year before.
