Borg 'most popular' minister in Sweden: poll

Sweden's Minister of Finance, Anders Borg, scored the highest, leaving Fredrik Reinfeldt behind, when Swedes had their say on which ministers they like the best.

On a scale of one to five in the survey, carried out by research company Sifo for daily Aftonbladet, Borg received a record high four, beating his own record from last year, which he shared with Fredrik Reinfeldt, by 0.2 percentage points.

Borg's rise to popularity started in conjunction with the financial crisis in 2008, according to the paper.

During his first years in office he had to be content with modest results, but many Swedes started to re-evaluate him, approving of how he and the government handled the crisis.

Borg's popularity scores have been increasing steadily since.

Coming in third was another representative for the Moderaterna party, namely Foreign Minister Carl Bildt, scoring 3.4 out of 5.

Prime minister Reinfeldt remained on last year's score of 3.8, making him second to Borg in popularity if not in real life.

Out of Sweden's 24 government ministers, only ten scored 3 or above.

What Swedes based their opinions on is not known, but the scores are likely based on the individual's achievements and public appearances, among other things.

The survey was conducted between December 12 and December 15, and is based on answers from 1,000 Swedes nationwide.
