Retailers expect strong last-minute sales
Retail sales have increased slightly this past week over the past two weeks and stores are expecting further increases heading into the final shopping days before Christmas, the German trade association said Sunday.
“The calendar will provide us with an especially strong last-minute business,” said Stefan Genth, the head of the association. Genth said sales have been especially strong in big cities.
There have been record Internet sales. The trade group expects revenues of € 6.5 billion. For the Christmas shopping season, which covers sales in November and December, the association is predicting an increase of 1.5 percent to € 79 billion.
