Parents reeling after attempted kidnapping

Parents in Falun, in central Sweden, are keeping closer tabs on their children after a man tried to drag a 13-year-old boy into a car on Thursday.

“We’re taking this very seriously. We still know very little about what happened but to be safe we are urging parents to pick their children up after school and remain vigilant after school hours,” said head of school Jonatan Block to local paper Dalademokraten.

According to the boy’s statements, the man tried to offer him a lift, and when he refused, the man tried to force him into the car.

However, the boy managed to struggle free, only sustaining some minor injuries and notified the school about what had happened. The school in their turn contacted the police.

When questioned by police, the boy said that he didn’t know the man, but that this was not the first time that the same individual had approached him.

An email containing information of what has happened was sent out to all parents in the town, and thousands of parents arrived at their children’s schools at the end of the day on Thursday.

“We were told by the principal that it was recommended. It doesn’t feel great that this has happened so close to the school. You’d rather be safe than sorry,” one parent told Sveriges Radio (SR).

“I thought it was a hoax at first. That this could happen here! Of course I am going to pick my child up after such an incident,” said another parent.

Police are currently looking for any information regarding the perpetrator, who was reportedly in his thirties or forties, wearing a green hat and driving a blue Volvo 360-40.
