Stockholm's 'smallest' flat for sale at 1.2 million

A flat described as "Stockholm's smallest" is up for sale for 1.2 million kronor ($174,000) and despite its modest 12 square metre size, there is no shortage of interest.

"There is space for all you could want from a regular one room apartment," said estate agent Pernilla Lippert to The Local on Tuesday.

Lippert explained that the generous three metre high ceiling allows for a queen size loft bed, space for a sofa and a dining table set for four.

The "kitchen" consists of little more than a small sideboard, but the bathroom is spacious enough for a shower, basin and toilet.

The apartment is located on Norr Mälarstrand in the Kungsholmen area of the city, one of the Swedish capital's more desirable addresses and thus the explanation for the hefty 100,000 kronor/square metre asking price - almost double the city average.

Lippert admitted that while the apartment is indeed compact and bijou it is in fact not the smallest she has ever come across.

"There was a 11 square metre studio in Vasastan six months ago, so this is almost the smallest," she said.

Lippert explained that while many of those who have expressed an interest in the apartment are looking for an overnight apartment, the flat has served as a permanent residence.

"It is has worked very well for the current owner," she said.
