"They have been gone since November 6th and we don't have any trace of them," Uppsala police spokesperson Christer Nordström told the TT news agency on Tuesday morning.

Police quickly opened an investigation into suspected kidnapping, according to a report by TV 4 News Uppsala.

"We have nothing concrete that makes us suspect an offence, but given that we do not have any clues, we have set up an investigation," Nordström said at the time.

The girls, both registered as residents of Uppsala, were reported to have disappeared around two weeks ago.

However, oine of the girls had had had some contact with her parents during this period on one occasion, according to TV 4.

The girls were found in the Vittinge area, west of Uppsala. Police still have no clues as to why they had disappeared or their whereabouts while they were missing.
