There was bitterness in Tromsø on Tuesday after rival Oslo's bid for the 2022 Winter Olympics was endorsed by the country's sports federations.

The slight to Tromsø comes three years after the city’s bid for the 2018 games — one that envisioned an expanded airport and cruise-liner “floatels” — was killed due to unwanted costs.

Norway’s seven winter sports federations backed Oslo Olympic organisers despite the pleas of Norway’s commerce minister not to have a new bid “for a while”.

The capital region already struggles with snow clearance and missed train schedules. Despite the services shortfall, city and national politicians will meet sports officials and Olympic organizers to decide the future of the bid on Nov. 3rd 2011.

Oslo Mayor Fabian Stang used his Twitter account to remind his followers that a 2022 event would come 70 years after the last time Oslo was an Olympic host city.

“That might just be something,” Stang tweeted.
