Around 500 animals dead in Bavarian farm fire

Around 500 farm animals perished in a massive fire at a Bavarian farm in the early hours of Monday, police said.
At least 400 pigs and up to 80 cows were killed in the flames at the farm in Gadheim, near the state border with Thuringia.
Fire fighters managed to drive around 50 animals away from the fire and into fields, although some were so badly injured that they had to be put down.
An investigation has been launched to determine how the fire started.
About 200 fire fighters were needed to bring the flames under control, which caused millions of euros in property damage.
Lots of agricultural equipment was completely destroyed, including a combine harvester and a brand new tractor. A solar power system on the roof of one building also went up in flames.
