A porn magazine that ran a feature on the sexual appetites of firemen, illustrated with a series of raunchy pictures, has had to explain itself in court.

The magazine, Hot Video, ran the 14-page article titled "the truth about firemen and sex" in November 2010 featuring claims about their steamy sex lives.

The stories included a statement by one anonymous horny fireman that "in certain fire stations, group orgies are THE preoccupation of the week."

Alongside the raunchy tales was a series of compromising shots which used the services of four X-rated actresses. Pierre Cavalier, a journalist at the magazine, told AFP at the time the men were "real fire-fighters."

The French National Firefighters Federation (FNSPF) filed a complaint following the publication of the magazine.

The article caused "consternation" among fire-fighters, Henri Trumer, the lawyer for the FNSPF, told a court room in the suburbs of Paris.

"Not only does it portray fire-fighters as sexual obsessives and the fire station as a place of debauchery, it is also an impediment to the feminization of the profession," he said.

The lawyer for the magazine told the court that it was a lot of fuss about nothing and that the plaintiffs were "acting like scared virgins." He added that this was the first time in twenty years that the magazine had been accused of defamation.

The court adjourned and will give its judgement at a later date.
