Sunny, warm weekend to offer summery respite
This weekend could offer a summery break from the recent chilly weather in Germany, as temperatures reach upwards of 30 degrees in parts of the country amid abundant sunshine. Just don't wait until Sunday for your picnic.
Scattered rain is forecast across much of Germany on Friday morning, according to the German Weather Service (DWD), with cloudy skies starting to clear up near evening. In the southwest, the afternoon and evening are expected to be quite agreeable, with highs ranging from 20 to 23 degrees Celsius.
Other parts of the country will remain between 15 and 19 degrees on Friday.
As the rain moves slowly eastward, however, Germany will experience a south-westerly flow of hot air from the Mediterranean, bringing dry and sunny weather on Saturday. Temperatures are expected to jump up to between 23 and 28 degrees and could even reach 30 degrees in southwestern Germany.
“Unfortunately, there’s already an end to the nice weather on Sunday,” said DWD-meteorologist Helmut Malewski. “Troughs of low pressure will approach from the west, bringing showers and thunders and causing temperatures to sink again.”
On Saturday night, northern Germany can expect more rain and storms, although the southeastern parts of country will remain partly clear. Wind will develop primarily from the south, and temperatures may drop to 11 degrees.

Sunday’s forecast remains variable, with partial cloud cover and showers, especially in southern and eastern Germany. Thunderstorms could develop in the central states. Areas along the coast and in the mountains will likely not top 20 degrees, while northern and western Germany will range between 21 and 25 degrees. In other areas, temperatures may warm to 28 degrees.
But the summery respite will be short: By Monday the air will cool to a low of nine degrees, with possible rain, thunderstorms across the country.
