Doc accused of snapping pics of naked patients
A Swedish woman who had just had a rectal examination was surprised when her doctor whipped out his mobile phone and showed her pictures he had taken of other patients in various states of undress.
The woman, who had been booked in to see the doctor at the local health clinic in Sörmland in eastern Sweden in November last year, became worried after the doctor showed her pictures he had snapped of other patients while undressed..
According to the woman, the photos all seemed to be of patients and taken during medical examinations.
The patient became concerned that the shutterbug doc had perhaps taken some pictures of her as well and reported the incident to the National Board on Health and Welfare (Socialstyrelsen), according to local newspaper Eskilstunakuriren.
The head of the clinic later met with the woman to hear what she had to say about the incident, prompting the launch of an internal investigation into the physician's past.
The doctor had been hired by the clinic through a staffing agency and after requesting to see copies of the doctor's medical licence and references, officials at the clinic learned that the doctor had previously been reported to Sweden's Medical Responsibility Board (HSAN), but that no measures had been taken in response to the previous complaint.
The doctor has now been reported to the police and to the National Board of Health Welfare.
