Warm weekend weather defies start of autumn
Despite the official start of autumn on September 1, much of Germany looks set to enjoy a warm and toasty weekend with temperatures going up to 30 degrees.
Warm air and sunshine is spreading throughout the country with temperatures ranging from 20 degrees in coastal regions to roughly 30 degrees in the Upper Rhine area on Saturday and Sunday.
But German Weather Service (DWD) meteorologist Johanna Anger warned that the lovely weather will be broken up by periods of soggy thunderstorms, much like the ones Germany has experienced throughout the summer. And cooler fall weather will be arriving soon, she said.
“There are already scattered thunderstorms and showers in the south and south-west,” Anger said, explaining that a front coming in from France could disrupt the warm weather.

Saturday should herald a nice start to the weekend for most of the country with temperatures ranging from the mid-20s in the interior of Germany to the low 30s in the far west.
The country’s north-east will have to wait until Sunday for the balmy weather when temperatures will hit 26 degrees there.
By Sunday, the far west could be hit with scattered thunderstorms. The east looks likely to continue enjoying warmth until Monday.
That’s when cool weather will start to arrive.
Much of the country will be cloudy and there is a chance of heavy showers beginning on Monday – particularly in the east and south – as well as thunderstorms and wind from time to time.
Germany can expect unsettled weather for the rest of the week as the autumn arrives.
