Therese (62) and Karl Stauffiger (65) from Canton Bern say they had €200 before they entered baggage control in Zürich airport. After coming through security, €155 were missing.

The couple, who were on the way to Italian holiday resort Brindisi, placed their valuables on the conveyer belt during baggage control. “I put my wallet with 200 euros and my belt in a box“, Karl Stauffiger told Blick newspaper. As Mr. Stauffiger received the box again, he got a fright. “Two €20 notes were flapping beside my wallet“, he said.

The Stauffigers informed security staff immediately, and asked for the conveyor belt to be stopped.

The couple looked around. Beside the conveyor belt lay €5. In total, €155 was missing. We complained“, said Karl Stauffiger, but the security manager told us that the money would turn up again“.

They are sure that they money was stolen by the security staff. No other tourist had access to our belongings.“

When they arrived back from holidays, they made a complaint immediately: We want to warn other passengers. Maybe it has often happened. Perhaps other victims will come forward.“

We are simply shocked that people are not even safe from thieves at a security check in Switzerland“, the couple said.
