Man raped child 75 times, avoids prison

A 27-year-old man has been sentenced to psychiatric care after having been convicted for raping three young children, filming the attacks and publishing the material on the internet.

The man was convicted of aggravated assault and aggravated child pornography offences. The rapes concerned two young girls and boy with one of the girls subjected to more than 75 rapes.

"The case is special, as he raped one individual girl so many times and as it concerns a large number of pictures of the same child," prosecutor Ingela Klinteberg told the local Svenska Dagbladet daily.

The man, who is from Blekinge in southern Sweden, received his sentence from Kristianstad District Court on Monday.

The court followed the prosecutor's recommendation not to send him to prison and instead sentenced him to forensic psychiatric care with the condition that he be placed under special discharge review.

He was furthermore order to pay damages of 510,000 kronor ($81,400) plus interest to the girl who sustained the most severe abuse. The other two victims will receive 75,000 and 40,000 respectively.

All of the children involved are reported to be under ten-years-old but all detailed information concerning their identity and age has been classified to protect the victims.

The man was arrested following an operation conducted by the National Criminal Investigation Department (Rikskriminalen) cybercrime unit. The unit were able to trace the man by tracking internet traffic.

When the man was arrested, police found a 26,000 pornographic pictures of children and a large quantity of films, including at least 1,300 depicting serious sexual assault on his computer.

The man underwent a psychiatric examination which indicated that he suffers from a serious condition.
