It's fun to see classical music played among the gilded curlicues of a historic church or palace. The experience becomes more authentic, like you're stepping back in time to the era of the composer. These kinds of opportunities abound in Berlin during the city's "Classical Music Days" festival, which runs through the end of July. On Saturday, pianist Naoko Fukumoto joins the Berlin Mozart Quartet at the French Cathedral for an evening devoted to Chopin and Schubert.

A mechanical choreography unfolds at the Berlin exhibition space Complice this weekend. Powered by transducers and stepper motors, cloud-like structures of rice paper and wire change shape as the sounds of crumpling paper, tightening wire, hums, and clicks fill the room. Fusing sound and structure, the installation by Hideaki Idetsuk and Rama Gottfried opens Friday night.

Make your way to An der Schanz Saturday when the Eierplätzchenband plays Cuban music followed by Oeff Oeff Productions' wild acrobatic theatre on a sky-high stage.

Cologne Sculpture Park
Parks look so good when they're all decked out in cool sculptures. Seriously, how exciting is it to go walking through the woods and suddenly a crazy twisted mass of orange steel pops up? Every few years Cologne's sculpture park gets a redesign. Go and see the new sculptures by Martin Boyce, Thomas Klesewetter, Hubert Klecol, and other fantastic artists this week.

You may have noticed a new building in Munich's museum district. It's the University of Film and Television's new digs. But what's a university without a little museum in its basement? That's where the State Collection of Egyptian Art is going to go. Though it's expected to take another two years to get all those sphinxes and mummies set up in their new home, you can take a peek at the empty exhibition spaces this weekend.
