Mother of newborn baby found in waste identified
The mother of a newborn baby whose body was found at a composting centre has been identified, police said.
The woman, a 20-year-old Swiss national, was identified on Saturday in the Emmental-Oberaargau area and was briefly detained by police for questioning before being released, said a statement from the Bern cantonal police. According to preliminary autopsy results, the baby was stillborn.
His body was found among cut branches at a composting centre near Solothurn in north-west Switzerland earlier this month.
DNA testing has proved the woman is the baby’s mother, the statement said, adding that further investigations are under way.
