The boy, whose identity has not yet been determined, appears to be completely developed and has white skin.

Forensic tests are being carried out to determine the cause of death. Stefan Affolter, a worker at the Bellach vegetable waste compost who found the body, told the online version of the 20 Minuten newspaper that he at first mistook the body for a fish or a dead swan.

“This vision has deeply shaken me,” he was quoted as saying. “I really would like to know how  somebody could reach such extremes.”

In another interview with the Aargauer Zeitung, the man said he tried to touch the body with a stick, then alerted the police. “I just hoped it wasn't a baby. But I suspected it,” he was quoted as saying.

Authorities are now appealing to the baby’s mother to come forward, as well as health workers and doctors who may have first-hand knowledge about the case.
