Mystery shrouds Swedish farmer's death
Police in southern Sweden are pursuing several lines of inquiry after a 53-year-old man was found dead on Friday, only two years after his brother and sister-in-law died in mysterious circumstances.
"There is a mass of information which we are working on," said Håkan Adler at Skåne police to the TT news agency.
The 53-year-old was found dead on his farm in Viken in south-western Sweden on Midsummer's Eve.
According to reports the man was found with serious injuries and there was a large quantity of blood in the room. Police are working on the theory that he was murdered.
The police were however unwilling to confirm the cause of death or if any murder weapon had been found. One of the theories under consideration is that the man died during a robbery after a window was found forced open.
This is not the first time the family has been hit by a mysterious death.
In May 2009 the man's brother and sister-in-law died in their home, a short distance from where the farmer was found. The couple's death was later classified as a tragic accident, but the police initially suspected that they had been poisoned.
Following the untimely death of the 53-year-old, the couple's case could be re-opened, Håkan Adler said to Sveriges Radio (SR).
"We obviously have that in mind, but just at the moment we are in the process of collecting information. It could become relevant to look at that again," he said.
The man's younger brother also died tragically in 1990, committing suicide aged 28.
Police forensics are continuing to examine the crime scene on Monday. Interviews are ongoing with potential witnesses and no suspects have yet been identified.
