A 16 year-old was killed in a single vehicle accident just outside Lund, in the south of Sweden, at 5am on Sunday morning.

He was travelling in a so-called EPA tractor, an old car converted into farming machine, together with three other teenagers.

One of the 16 year-old's companions was also severely injured, and the other two received minor injuries.

All three have been taken to the university hospital in Lund.

Local police have confirmed that the victims were all minors.

"Three of them were born in 1995. One was born 1994," Cindy Schönström-Larsson, information officer with the Skåne police force, said to regional newspaper Sydsvenskan.

How the accident occurred is still unclear, although the police are now investigating this.

"There's a run-down telephone pole by the accident spot, so most likely they crashed into the pole," Schönström-Larsson said.

The EPA tractor flipped over in the course of the accident, according to reports from tabloid paper Aftonbladet.

The teenagers' families have been notified.
