Aerial photos show Germany from striking new angle
A new book of aerial photography reveals fascinating new textures and patterns in German landscapes that can look completely different from above.
“It makes me happy when a viewer can’t recognise what is in the photograph,” pioneering aerial photographer Gerhard Launer told daily Frankfurter Rundschau.
Launer’s newest project, Deutschland – Entdeckung von oben or “Germany – Discovery from Above”, takes him across Germany to reveal the country from a startling new angle.
With his bird’s eye trained on the snaking railways, lonely lighthouses and cavernous mines of his homeland, the photographer transforms the quotidian to the majestic, unveiling Germany’s surprising beauty from above.
Deutschland – Entdeckung von oben is the culmination of over thirty years of Launer’s aerial work.
