Swiss consider electronic tags for violent husbands

The Swiss parliament is considering forcing violent husbands to wear an electronic tag, allowing authorities to check they don’t go too close to their wives.

A motion currently being considered by parliament aim to provide a legal basis for such a measure, said a report on the daily Tages Anzeiger. The proposal has been welcomed by the Council of States, the upper chamber of the parliament.

The motion points to similarly successful initiatives in France and Spain, the paper said.

Having offenders wear electronic tags will help monitor their movements before they plan an attack, thus preventing the spread of domestic violence. The tagging can also help determine whether they violate any restrictive measures, for instance by coming too close to their victims.
