Bavarian football giants Bayern Munich have averted a title-free season by again being voted the best vegetarian-friendly club in the Bundesliga by animal rights group PETA.

For the fourth season running, PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) has voted Bayern the best team in the German league at serving up tasty meat-free dishes to hungry football fans at their Allianz Arena stadium.

"As in past years, nothing culinary passes the Allianz Arena by," wrote PETA on its website.

"The menu remains unchanged with chips, pizzas and Bavarian pretzels, as well as baguettes and sweet options on offer, meaning Bayern defend their position at the top of the rankings."

Having finished third in the Bundesliga, knocked out of both the Champions League and German Cup, PETA's award will be scant reward for the Bavarians who won the league and cup double the season before.

Champions League semi-finalists Schalke 04 came second in the veggie table, while, as their name might suggest, Hamburger SV finished bottom of the table.

Despite the German's love for sausages, PETA say the standard of food for non-meat eaters at Bundesliga clubs is high with such delights as vegetarian kebabs and meatless burgers on offer at some league clubs across Germany.

"This ranking clearly shows that the vegetarianism in mainstream society has arrived," said PETA in a statement.
