The men, who are known to police for committing earlier violent crimes, both have gun wounds in the abdominal area.

One of the men was operated on Friday night while the other had less serious injuries. Both men are suspected of attempted murder.

The gunfire occurred at 10pm next to a bicycle path in the northeast of the city. Police found a hand gun on the ground next to one of the men, but they believe more weapons were involved.

Police questioned witnesses last night, several of whom had heard gunfire. One witness had seen two men running away from the location where the shots were heard.

“From the way it looks now we suspect that one of them was the slightly injured man,” Reine Johansson, the on-duty commander with Kalmar Police, told TT.

“Despite his injuries he was able to get away from the crime scene.”

It was unclear who the other man running from the scene was.

Police have interrogated the slightly wounded man. He will not provide any information as to what occurred.
