This weekend could bring the first glorious beer garden weather of the year. The German Weather Service (DWD) is forecasting widespread sunshine and balmy temperatures across the country.

The southwest could see highs up to 25 degrees Celsius by Saturday, though chilly nighttime lows in the single digits will be a reminder that it’s still early spring, DWD meteorologist Tanja Dressel said. The only “beauty marks” will be a few showers in the northwest, she added.

While Thursday will be cloudy with scattered rain in the west, eastern and southeastern regions will stay dry. Temperatures will range between a mild 11 and 17 degrees Celsius.

Overnight rainfall is likely in the east and southeast, with temperatures set to drop as low as five degrees.

Friday’s weather will remain overcast with scattered rain, though temperatures will be a comfortable 15 degrees along the northern coast and 19 degrees in the southwest. The typically warm Upper Rhine region, however, could reach highs up to 22 degrees, Dressler said.

By Saturday almost the entire country will enjoy sunnier conditions with highs between 19 and 25 degrees. Only coastal areas will be a bit cooler, between 15 and 18 degrees, with scattered showers.

“This weather clearly invites you to go outside. People should get moving in the fresh air, storm the beer gardens or sit out at the corner ice cream shop,” Dressler said.
