Green Party proposes new leadership duo
The Green Party on Tuesday proposed Gustav Fridolin and Åsa Romson as its new spokespersons to be elected at the party congress in May.
The party's nomination committee furthermore proposed Anders Wallner as new party secretary. Wallner has previously been a secretary to outgoing spokesperson Maria Wetterstrand.
In its nomination, the committee wrote that they see Romson and Fridolin as two people of equal status offering different strengths that complement each other.
"Åsa and Gustav, both master the art of formulating green policy in a comprehensible and credible manner, within the party, through the media and in meetings with people around the country," the committee said, describing the two as skilled debaters.
Fridolin made history in becoming the then youngest member of the Swedish parliament in 2002. He sat for only one term before trying his hand at journalism in 2006, returning to parliament in 2010.
Åsa Romson was first elected to parliament in 2006 but choose to turn down the place in favour of doctoral studies. She was elected again in 2010, this time opting to accept the place and applied for the post of Green Party spokesperson on November 25th 2010.
The committee described Anders Wallner as "having extensive experience from the Green Party and from other non-profit organizations, and has experience from both rural and urban living in his personal life."
The Green Party will formally elect the its spokespeople at the party congress to be held between May 20th-22nd.
The current spokespersons, Maria Wetterstrand and Peter Eriksson, have held their posts since 2002. They will both leave their posts at the congress, after having served the maximum amount of time permitted by the party regulations.
