The 20-year-old man denied the charges in Solna district court that he had raped a 25-year-old woman after a party with classmates at a further education college in Stockholm last Christmas.

But a confession on his Facebook page that the encounter was "foolish" helped the court to reach a guilty verdict for rape and sexual coercion.

The man was sentenced to probation with a special treatment plan, reported the Metro newspaper.

The sex attack occurred after a Christmas party at their hotel and restaurant college in December 2010, the newspaper reported.

The woman was sleeping at the time when she was stripped and molested by the two men.

A further young man who helped the 20-year-old to remove the woman's clothing was convicted of sexual molestation and fined 6,000 kronor ($940).

In a message to the woman on Facebook the 20-year-old later expressed regret and admitted that he had been foolish.

The Facebook apology, along with the woman's testimony in court, was sufficient for the court to find against the men. The woman described her condition on the night in question as "significantly intoxicated".

She also claimed that she had felt drugged, a claim denied by the two defendants.
