The 49-year-old man was also charged for aggravated child pornography crimes after police discovered over 4,000 child porn images on his computer, Västerviks-Tidningen wrote on Friday.

In addition, during a chat on the internet, he asked a nine-year-old girl to show him her genitals on the webcam, the report said. They also found 126 film sequences with child pornography on his computer, the report said.

Police have had the man, who has previously been convicted in 20 cases of sexual assault and one case of sexual relations with children, in their sights for some time, the newspaper reported.

After undergoing an investigation involving the suspect for a period of time in 2009, they conducted a search of his residence, where they found large quantities of pornographic images of children and movies on his computer, the report said.

Several of the images and movies contained sequences that the prosecution found particularly ruthless, according to the newspaper.

In November 2010, the Swedish Bankers' Association announced that cooperation between Swedish banks and police to stop the purchase of child porngraphy images over the internet had proven effective.

Separately, a district court in southern Sweden sentenced a man who lured 45 young girls and adolescents to pose in front of webcams to one year in prison the previous month.
