Germany will see a partial solar eclipse Tuesday morning, when the moon will hide up to three quarters of the sun.

The eclipse will begin about 8:30 am and last until about 10:00 am, varying slightly from city to city. In northern Germany, about 75 percent of the sun will be blocked and about 70 percent will be blocked to viewers in the south.

Given the eclipse will happen while the sun is barely above the horizon, the chances of seeing it properly depend on the cloud cover. The prospects of clear sky were somewhat better in the south than the north, where cloud blanketed the sky early in the morning.

Experts stress that safety glasses - such as a welder's mask - or a pinhole camera should be used to view the eclipse at length.
