The 38-year-old was arrested in the central Colombian town of Girardot in an operation conducted with the cooperation of Swedish authorities and was deported on Sunday, according to the Colombian newspaper El Pais.

The man is suspected of having been behind an attempt to smuggle 1.4 tonnes of cocaine into Europe that was seized in June 2010, according to a report in the Sydsvenskan daily.

The French customs stopped a sailing boat outside of the Caribbean island of Martinique and a 54-year-old Swede was arrested after the cocaine, valued at 800 million kronor ($118 million), was found onboard.

The 54-year-old was deported to Sweden in September.

The 38-year-old is reported to have a long criminal record in Sweden, with several convictions for serious offences, including armed robbery.

He is also known for several spectacular escapes.

In conjunction with an appeals court hearing in 1995 he was freed by an armed motorcycle gang. When on home leave from Häll prison in 2001 he escaped while visiting a motorshow in Nyköping in the company of guards. He was arrested shortly after.
