The 27-year-old Swede from Åtvidaberg in central Sweden, took the fight to Gerula in front of a lively crowd at Stockholm's Hovet arena.

"It feels great. This is really massive for me. It is fantastic that I was able to be a part of this gala. I did everything I could and it went well, anyway," Wallberg said in a television interview after her win.

The boxer conceded that she had been feeling the effects of a cold, but managed to hold off the Canadian to win over the judges.

"She was a really tough. A really awkward boxer. But it went my way."

The judges gave Wallberg a unanimous decision 77-75, 78-75 and 78-75.

The Swede expressed a hope that the success would enable her to focus her energies on fighting full-time.

"We just need to find the sponsors so that I don't need to work," her manager and coach Wally Munteanu told the Expressen daily.

Frida Wallberg is Sweden's most successful female boxer of all time. She won 48 of her 53 fights as an amateur before turning professional in 2004. She has won the Nordic title twice and currently holds the WIBF world lightweight title.

Munteanu told Expressen that Wallberg could consider changing weight class in order to add to her titles and eyed a match with US southpaw Holly Holm.

"She is the world's best boxer pound for pound," he told the newspaper of the welterweight.

But first Wallberg is required to offer her Olivia Gerula a rematch within six months.
