Swedish child minder charged with rape
A 25-year-old child minder employed at a pre-school in southern Stockholm was on Wednesday formally charged with aggravated sexual abuse and rape of a child.
The case involves two five-year-old girls.
The crime came to light after the girls told their parents about what they had been subjected to. Filmed interviews with the girls are reported to be key elements of the evidence against the man.
"We have turned every stone but have not uncovered any suspicions of the abuse of any further children," prosecutor Johnny Järlefelt has confirmed.
The man has now been charged with aggravated sexual abuse and rape of a child. He is reported to have persuaded the one girl to touch his penis and then ejaculated in her company.
The 25-year-old furthermore rubbed his penis on the other child's genitals, an offence which under Swedish law is equivalent to sexual intercourse and thus classified as rape.
The children's parents will be called to testify in the court trial which will begin next week.
Prosecutor Johnny Järlefelt has confirmed that the man has denied the charges against him.
