Carsten Höller - SOMA

Ever spent the night at a museum? As part of his new exhibition at the Hamburger Bahnhof, Swedish artist Carsten Höller created a floating hotel room. Smack dab in the middle of the museum's main hall, surrounded by live reindeer, the room resembles a mushroom - the purported main ingredient of a drink known as "soma" to the Vedic nomads of ancient North India, which forms the basis of this intriguingly scientific exhibition.

From supermarket scenes to gas station panoramas, the retrospective offers a look at 1950s Vancouver in full colour - a risky medium for a time that valued the artistic essence of good old black and white.
