Suspected serial rapist admits to more assaults
A 23-year-old man in custody for several suspected rapes in Örebro has confessed to four more assaults.
The man has admitted to all the three cases in which he had previously denied involvement, as well as another attempted rape for which he was not under suspicion, Sveriges Radio (SR) reported on Thursday.
The man was detained under probable cause on suspicion of attacks against four women in Örebro.
He is suspected of an attempted rape in August 2005, the aggravated rape of a woman in her 20s at a Eurostop in March and two attacks in October: the rape of a 64-year-old woman and the assault of a young woman. He has previously acknowledged one of the rapes.
During the latest interrogation, the man admitted to a new crime for which he has not yet been charged, an attempted rape in Örebro on October 10th, one day before his arrest. In addition, the man has gone from admitting to certain aspects of the aggravated rape to a full confession.
In the three other cases, he has gone from denying the attacks completely to acknowledging some of the circumstances.
"I do not want to provide the details of what he has admitted at the moment since a further hearing will be held," deputy chief prosecutor Pia Åsberg told news agency TT on Thursday.
Police are still investigating about 20 other reports and Åsberg hopes the man will confess to several other assaults.
The man was arrested by police on October 11th. The week before, police had called him to submit to a DNA test. However, the man called and left an excuse for cancellation a couple days later.
The arrest was not a result of the cancellation, according to police.
