The 45-year-man had apparently imbibed a bit more than his body could handle at a watering hole located on Avenyn Gothenburg’s main thoroughfare.

Overcome with the urge to sleep, the man took a break from his drinking and went to take a nap. But when staff members were locking up the establishment, they failed to notice the man was still sleeping inside the bar, the Aftonbladet newspaper reported.

The man woke up shortly before 5am Friday morning and realized to his dismay that he had been abandoned and locked inside the pub.

Unable to leave the establishment on his own, the 45-year-old called police.

“He called us and asked for help, but he had no idea which bar he was in,” Gothenburg police spokesperson Björ Blixter told the newspaper.

Police operators instructed the man to stay by the windows and keep an eye out for police as officers armed with flashlights fanned out across the city in search of the locked-in lush.

Eventually police found the man waving from inside the Lilla London pub. They then called a member of the staff to come and release the 45-year-old from his temporary imprisonment.
