Man says Ladies Night 'not all right'
Ladies Night, a popular cabaret show which has just celebrated its fifth year in Sweden, has been reported to the Discrimination Ombudsman (Diskriminerings ombudsman - DO) by a man denied tickets on the grounds of his gender.
"I have twice tried to buy tickets, but was told on both occasions that I could not as I belonged the male half of the population," said 58-year-old Kent Grim to The Local on Monday.
Grim told The Local that he has no opinion about the issue of gender equality in society in general and that his decision to report Wallmans, the firm which produces the show, is based on a genuine desire to see the show.
”It is not just on a point of principle. I have noticed this event for a few years now, and they have a list of really good artists. It is a while since I went to something similar and really fancied going," he said.
Ladies Night explains on its webpage that the event "started as a dream to offer all women a special evening with high-octane entertainment, wonderful togetherness and a fantastic atmosphere", and sure enough on its internet bookings page it clearly states "ONLY FOR GIRLS!".
"It is a clear case of discrimination, reverse discrimination if you will, but discrimination all the same," Grim said, adding that he received no explanation from either Wallman's, or booking agent Ticnet, as to why men could not buy tickets.
"They just sounded very stressed and just said 'thank you and good bye'."
Ladies Night fifth anniversary show features a line up including the singers Martin Stenmarck, Andreas Johnson and Brolle, as well as comedian Måns Möller, with guest appearances from Stephen Simmonds.
This year's tour began in Västerås on September 17th and runs until November 20th in Karlskrona.
The Local has contacted the production company behind Ladies Night for a comment on the report, but has not received a reply.
