Still summer in southern Sweden: met office

Despite the recent changeable weather in many parts of Sweden, it is still officially summer in southern and central areas of the country, according to meteorological office SMHI.

According to the official SMHI definition it is only the province of Norrland which has welcomed the autumn.

"It is the mild nights which hold back the median temperature and thus the autumn away," said Lisa Frost at SMHI.

The autumn is officially declared, according to SMHI's definition, when the median daily temperature falls below ten degrees Celsius for at least five consecutive days.

The changeable weather is set to continue during the week in most parts of Sweden with a rain front pushing in from the west on Tuesday and bringing with it windy weather in coastal regions.

Temperatures are forecast to remain in the region on 15-20 degrees Celsius until Tuesday and drop to 10-15 for the remainder of the week, with the cooler weather in northern areas and warmer around Stockholm.
