The cool and rainy start to autumn will take a short break over the weekend, with sunny skies and late-summer temperatures expected, the German Weather Service (DWD) reported on Friday.

A high-pressure system will drive away cloud cover, allowing the sun to shine through for a brief respite. Temperatures will top out between a pleasant 20 and 25 degrees Celsius, DWD meteorologist Helmut Malewski said in a statement.

Only coastal areas in the north could see a bit of rain.

Though Saturday will dawn with fog in some regions, sunshine and dry weather will quickly follow, with temperatures reaching between 19 and 24 degrees. The warmest highs will likely be enjoyed by residents of southern states, the DWD said.

Overnight skies will remain clear in southern and eastern regions, with average

temperatures between a cool 7 to 14 degrees.

Sunday morning will also see brief patches of fog before continued sunshine breaks through with highs between 21 and 25 degrees. Northwestern coastal areas will be slightly cooler with possible rain, the DWD said.

Monday is also expected to remain cheerful and sunny in some parts of Germany, with highs reaching up to 25 degrees in the Upper Rhine region.
