The weekend weather will look very different depending on whether residents are in eastern or western regions. While sunshine and pleasant temperatures are expected in the west, it will be rainy and cooler in the east, the German Weather Service (DWD) reported on Friday.

On Saturday, the eastern half of the country will see heavy cloud accompanied by showers that will likely develop into isolated thunderstorms by afternoon, the DWD said. Temperatures in the east will reach highs of 21 degrees Celsius, while in the sunny southwest they could climb as high as 24 degrees.

Overnight lows will be as chilly as four degrees in some places, with fog developing in patches, the DWD said.

Sunday highs will be friendly in the west again, with thermometers registering between 19 and 24 degrees in the south. But the east will be cooler again, topping out at only 16 to 21 degrees.

Meanwhile the outer reaches of eastern states and the Alps in the southeast are likely to see more rain.

The working week will begin with a slight improvement, with dry and sunny weather expected throughout the country, but it won’t last long. Tuesday is likely to become soggy and uncomfortable once again, the DWD said.
