The government parties claimed 47.6 percent in the latest poll, with the Red-Greens polling 45.8 percent. The gap between the two blocs is now at 1.8 points, in comparison to 3.7 points in the previous Synovate survey.

The far-right Sweden Democrats advance one percent and polled 4.4 percent, sufficient to claim seats in parliament if an election were to be held today.

Converted to seats in parliament, the government parties would claim 170, down from 178 today, and the three opposition parties would have 163, down from 171 today. The Sweden-Democrats would sit on 16 mandates.

All the changes in the Synovate poll are not categorised as statistically significant.

The Christian Democrats stand for a large part of the Alliance decline, down 1.6 percentage points to 4.1 percent. The Moderates also declined, by 0.6 points, and the Centre Party, by 0.5.

The Left Party gained 1.4 points to 7.5 percent - the party's highest level in a Synovate poll since February 2005. The Social Democrats also nudged up slightly, by 0.8 points to 30 percent, but remain the second largest party.

The Green Party fell back 1.4 points.
