Would-be au pairs lose 100,000 kronor to fraud
Two girls from Haninge, south of Stockholm, hoping to work as au pairs in New York learned that they lost more than 100,000 kronor ($13,400) to a fraudulent agency, TV4 Nyheterna reported late on Wednesday.
The girls money paid the funds to a company that they came in contact with through the Internet. The firm said it would arrange everything before the trip, but when it demanded even more money, they became suspicious.
The company insisted it is legitimate, but no work visas were ever issued to the two girls after the money exchanged hands.
Police urge the public to be careful when dealing with au pair agencies.
