Cooler and rainier weather heralds coming autumn
Germany will get a taste of the coming autumn this week, as the country's weather turns cool and wet, the German Weather Service (DWD) said on Monday.
Though Monday started mostly sunny across much of Germany, heavy rainfall was expected later in the day, DWD meteorologist Olaf Pels Leusden said in a statement. Calling this week's weather a "harbinger of autumn," temperatures would still be fairly warm, between 21 and 28 degrees Celsius.
Overnight, the country will experience gusty winds along the North Sea coast while central and southern Germany will see rain and some thunderstorms, Leusden said.
Tuesday will be partly cloudy with rain in the south and possibly the northwest. High temperatures will range from 18 degrees along the still windy northern coast and 24 degrees in the Upper Rhine region.
The rainfall and cloud cover in the south will slowly subside overnight, and temperatures are expected to dip as low as 8 degrees, Leusden said.
More rain is expected for northern and central German on Wednesday, though, with a few showers in the Alps as well. Temperatures will be decidedly cooler, with the mercury ranging between 17 degrees along the northern coast and 20 degrees elsewhere. Stormy winds will still be likely for coastal areas.
Thursday could prove to be a bit friendlier, with scattered cloud cover and rain only in the north. Meanwhile temperatures will increase a bit, ranging between 18 degrees on the coast and 26 in the southwest, Leusden said.
