The local Borås Tidning (BT) daily reported on Wednesday the story of the girlfriends who had worked all summer to save enough money to travel together to Turkey only to have their wallet stolen while in the bank.

While they were coming to terms with the end of their travel dreams the girls - Denise Friberg, Martina Bloch and Johanna Bildkvist - were contacted by the pensioner who offered to replace the money.

"It is fantastic. It is hardly as if one can believe that it is true," Martina Bloch told the newspaper.

The man, who requested to remain anonymous, told the newspaper that while he comes from a poor working-class background is now fairly well off and in a position to help.

"I got so angry and sad when I heard that someone could do something like this. I have no children of my own and have the means to help the girls," the man said.

Martina Bloch revealed that the man was not alone in offering to help and that they have turned down other offers of money now that their trip is paid for.
